Happy 2014!

I have not been very busy with my blog lately. This is mainly because I don’t really have good ideas (or just forget them), or just because I’m distracted (study). I consider my blog my side project, and not really my main area of work.
This is why my blog isn’t updated as frequently as I would like.

I also enabled (no I just disabled it – because it doesn’t work with my things I use) caching via Cloudflare, so everything will be faster and more secure (or so their site says ;) ).

Edit: Just tested it, and it’s bloat unless you want to pay mighty cash.

Anyhow, I want to give all my readers best wishes for 2014!

Peerbet 2. A website listening to its users.

This is a follow up article about the old Peerbet review, the owner of Peerbet contacted me according to the review.

I have had my own experiences with Peerbet. A good site, and it differs from other well known Bitcoin sites. I had some criticism about Peerbet, mainly because it had no option to ‘try’ or register without E-mail (which is something for privacy-parrots and real Bitcoin veterans). They offer instant withdrawals now, so take a bite of coins.

Their simple response to my review was: “We’ve added it now. Check your facts”. And now I did. I wrote this article as a huge appreciation and a apology. I underestimated Peerbet.

Well, a thank you to the Peerbet staff for reporting it and actually implementing the feature. Even if its criticism from a small blog like this, it’s a great improvement.

Until next time~

Happy 2013!

Happy new year everyone! I’ve had a great year with ups and downs and much blogging. I got myself a new laptop and a cool tablet for this year. I reviewed some noodles, and Ubuntu One’s cloud services. I guess you got some interesting stories aswell? Well and again, a happy new year!

Now for 2013 and many years to come!

Some site updates

Hello,

As you may know, I have made several additions to the blogs functionality. This includes behind the scene improvements, caching, and compression and interlaced loading of images. I also re-added the ‘social’ bar with the +1, Like, and Follow button. I have more time on my hands for my blog, so that means more irrelevant things for you to read. You can also visit Marlon.ws directly on your mobile phone.

Marlon.ws Mobile
Marlon.ws works perfectly with text based mobile browsers and Opera Mobile or Mini.

I also updated マーロン, to show a dynamic logo. Note that you need Unicode support on your computer. I’ve also added other fonts for news articles and the slogan. This may decrease loading speed, but this has been minimized as much as possible.

Thank you for your interest in Marlon.ws.

– Until next time.

Don’t forget to check out our shop with irrelevant products, powered by CafePress.com.

Planned maintenance on server #2

I’m very busy with server #2, which needs updating and upgrading. This means that some sections of the site may not work correctly or not work at all(such as the search engine). The maintenance is set for 10:00 AM to 5:59 PM (GMT +1 Amsterdam).

This is only a notice, and yes, I’m reviewing Ubuntu One. Have a nice Sunday, and don’t forget your hardware on the street.

Update: Back online. Some server hiccups may occur.

Update 10 Oct.: Server crashed completely. No money for repairs (broken hard disk). This means the search engine will be dead for a long period.

Up and running!

Well, here it is. My website is up and running, and not everything is restored. It took a little longer than I expected, and my apologies for my readers.

Here is what happened last week, that caused delay:

–  Tweaked things up in the theme and the CMS

–  This caused my database to go nuts and a reinstall was imminent.

Luckily enough, I had a (local) backup, unlike previous time. Well, I made a backup one week before my old blog crashed out, but it was on the same server, that I couldn’t access anymore. So that went to point 0 after my old hard disk crashed with older backups.

So, I’m going to post anything from gadgets to Bitcoin, and well, I have got myself a new laptop so it will be lots easier to do this time. Well, I have to prepare things, make pages and stuff, so until the next post!

And… we’re back online!

Well, that was a rough ride of downtime and hosting issues. No backups, no old-posts, no nothing after a bug triggering sendmail. And then our host blocked us, and oh well. No reply to e-mails, and wasted server costs… But I hope I get started as soon as possible restoring everything to normal. A fresh start, new theme, new posts, and the good ol’ blogposters. So, let it burn down your mind for a while, and check out the links on the right until everything is back to normal!!

See you soon,

~Marlon
